Volunteering

Volunteers Are Always Welcome
If you would like to volunteer your time or services to JFS, please give us a call. We are always in need of volunteers and we will match your preferences and knowledge to an appropriate position. Without our volunteers, we would not be able to provide all the wonderful programs to you and the community! Our current volunteer opportunities include:

Children's Activity Group Supervisor - Supervise a children's activity group the 3rd Wednesday evening of each month from 6 p.m. to approximately 8:30 p.m. at the JFS office.

Shabbat Meal Deliverer - Every other week (Thursday afternoon or Friday ) deliver prepared food to a resident in downtown New Haven.  Food is picked up at the JFS main office.

Community Representative - JFS is seeking a volunteer to represent the agency at community events throughout New Haven county. Responsibilities would include staffing an informational table during various events throughout the community. Outgoing personality and interest in foster care and adoption helpful. To find out about this volunteer opportunity and others, contact us today.

Friendly Visitors - Homebound or elderly residents in Greater New Haven enjoy one-on-one visits from our group of dedicated friendly visitors. Whether it's swapping stories, having tea, taking a walk or playing cards, these visitors are a way to brighten a day.

Here are just a few of the agency programs our volunteer department serves.

Shabbat Food
Our Shabbat Meals Volunteers deliver biweekly food to homebound and elderly residents in New Haven.

Tutors for Children
Helping children reach their full academic potential is important to JFS and our volunteer tutors. Our tutors are matched with children in our foster care programs needing academic assistance. Through one-on-one attention, the tutors help with skills building exercises, homework, and building self confidence and self-esteem.
