ADOPTION HOME STUDY GROUP SCHEDULED Jewish Family
Service of New Haven has scheduled an Infant/Intercountry
Homestudy Group during July 2008. Any family or individual
interested in adopting an infant domestically or from an
international country should contact JFS for more information
and/or to register for this free group. The group will meet in the
evening from 6:30-9 p.m. on July 8th, 10th,
15th and 22nd.
A Homestudy is a requirement for any person intending to adopt
a child. JFS has a very unique home study process in which home
studies are conducted in a group context. This allows prospective
parents the opportunity to meet others wanting to adopt but the
wealth of information and sharing of ideas is key to the adoption
process. The JFS home study group has always met the Hague
educational training requirement. A benefit to having a home study
at JFS is that families do not need to take additional training
under the Hague Adoption Convention treaty (which consists of
rules and procedures for adoptions between countries and ensures
that children are provided with permanent, loving homes; that
adoptions take place in the best interests of a child; and that
the abduction, sale or traffic in children is prevented). The
group meets the 10-hour Hague training requirement.
